A Windy Day

Today there a big wind. We made some kites, they flew perfectly. We had lots of fun, my two brothers, they were the ones that flew the kite. They were on the trampoline, we were on the ground, we were going under the kites. It was so fun, we had the best time ever, I had alot of fun too. And after a while we got tired, we went inside.

Did you know that kite flying is supposed to have started in china around 3,000 years ago. Kites were make of bambou and silk for the sail and bridle. Have you ever seen a photo of a box kite as well as cellular kites. Look them up. They are interesting.A couple of hundred years ago, kites were used for lifting military people in the sky, so they check where the enemy was, on the other side.

During World War II (1939-1945), kites were used as gunnery targets. They also used to be used for to conduct scientific experiments so you see, they aren't just toys for children. They were also used to experiment with before the first aeroplane was built.

Princess with Brains,
I love kites too. Making kites is almost as much fun as flying them. One time when I was just a wee bit older than you I spent all my money earned from mowing yards on kite string. I sailed the kite high in the sky attaching each ball of line as the previous ran out. In the end there must have been a couple of thousand meters of string attached to what was to me a tiny dot in the evening sky.
But then as the sun set a searchlight lit up my kite and then another light and yet another. I was excited at first and then grew fearful as I twined the line onto a stick retrieving my kite as rapidly as possible.
I had let out so much line that my kite was flying high over a community airport interfering with airplane traffic. Boy was I scared; it took over an hour to bring the kite home. I never did that again but it sure was fun.
Thanks for reminding me of one of my best times ever too......xoxo Timpa
